I thought I’d share with you a couple of useful utilities which can help you keep your computer up to date and running optimally, for FREE.
Patch My PC will ensure you are running the latest patches not only for Microsoft Windows, but for Adobe Reader, Firefox, iTunes, Google Chrome and about 30 other applications.
I actually stumbled upon Patch My PC by accident, and was quite shocked that something so truly awesome was FREE.
This is an old favourite of mine and makes running up a new computer much easier. Simply go to the NiNite.com website, select the applications you want to install automatically and click Get Installer.
You will then be directed to download a small application, which when run will download and install the latest versions of the software you’ve selected.
This wonderful utility will help give your computer a spring clean, by clearing out a lot of the junk that you accumulate by general browsing, installing applications and what not.
But be warned, don’t go ticking options you don’t understand as you could accidentally clear out all your stored passwords, or worse!
This funky program is written by the same team that put together CCleaner. It’s a disk defragmenting product, meant to replace the built in Windows application.
You can schedule this to run at various times and I would highly recommend doing this at least once per week.
NOTE: If you have a Solid State Drive (SSD) you should NEVER defragment it.
MalwareBytes has become our #1 choice for spyware and malware removal in the office. In fact we now include MalwareBytes licensing as STANDARD with all our service agreements we have that much faith in it.
If you’ve been unlucky enough to get infected with a bit of malware, give MalwareBytes a run!
