Do you Audible?

I don’t read enough. I find it hard to sit down and spend much more than about 5 minutes reading a book, unless I’m on holiday.

There’s probably something in that, and my clients who operate in the field of psychology (or have experience in the field) will probably raise an eye brow and have a stern word to me the next time I see them.

But I don’t make time to read as much as I should. I have however found that I love to listen!

Upon discovering the treasure trove of online learning in the form of podcasts, recorded teleseminars, webinars, and all manner of exciting multimedia content, I have transformed my daily driving from listening to some “doof doof” (yes, I said it!) music, to become an experience that enriches my drives.

As an ironic by-product, I find myself not wanting to go above the speed limit, as that would impact on the amount of time I have to enjoy the learning experience!

If you’re a technophile, you’re probably already aware of – the Amazon store that sells audio books, often narrated by the original author.

You may even tell me that I don’t need, because you can buy many of the audio books through iTunes.

Whilst this may be true in the most part, there is some content that iTunes doesn’t offer, plus iTunes is a little more expensive than buying from Audible directly. Plus, if you really want to dig into it, I loathe iTunes – especially when I’m currently using an Android mobile phone (Samsung Galaxy S2) which iTunes doesn’t work with.

The Audible software allows you to play your purchases on your iPhone, iPod, iPad, Android, PC or Mac, or burn to a CD; and your purchases can be imported into Apple’s iTunes or Microsoft’s Windows Media Player, should you prefer to manage all your “content” in one place.

As a result of, I’ve been able to absorb many fantastic books on Sales & Marketing, Leadership, Entrepreneurship, Psychology and Economics – although my “wish list” is growing faster than my “read list”. I’ve even subscribed to the “Harvard Business Review”, something I never would have dreamed of 10 years ago!

Whatever your preference, is an amazing resource and well worth a couple of bucks to experience.
